Ever wanted to try Pilates but not really sure? See what some of the wonderful ISLANDZ clients have to say and see if they can convince you to give Pilates a go!

Amanda S

How long have you practiced Pilates with Islandz?

About 18 months

What made you want to start Pilates?

I had hurt my calf running and was advised that strengthening my TVA muscle

would be a good thing so I thought Pilates would help and Holly came highly

recommended

What changes have you felt in your body and mind since starting?

I have definitely felt my core and pelvic floor are stronger (although always more to

do there ). I also think my concentration levels are better

What’s your favourite small piece of equipment that you’ve used in an Islandz

session?

I don’t know that I have a favourite piece of equipment as I like a lot of the exercises

that don’t use equipment but if I had to pick one I would say the ball.

What is your favourite Pilates move?

Anything directly ab related

Which Pilates move do you find the hardest?

All of it if I have too long a break from classes

What is your biggest Pilates achievement (e.g – I can now touch my toes, I can hold

my legs in table top…)

I can get my legs lower to the ground when straight using my abs

What advice would you give to new starters?

To try and do two classes a week if possible and expect you’re whole body to ache

at first

Has your opinion on Pilates changed since you first started?

No, I always thought it was a good thing and I still think so.

Casey B

How long have you practiced Pilates with Islandz?

Since 2017

What made you want to start Pilates?

Get fitness back after having my second baby.

What changes have you felt in your body and mind since starting?

My core is amazing and I am much stronger than I used to be. I find running and cycling so much easier since I started Pilates. When I first started Pilates, the hour at Holly's house was more like a relaxation session than exercise. I love the atmosphere Holly creates with music, candles and lighting. It feels like a break but with the bonus of exercising.

What’s your favourite small piece of equipment that you’ve used in an Islandz session?

I like the balls and the big tube thing! Holly always makes the sessions really interesting and varied so u forget you are exercising.

What is your favourite Pilates move?

This is hard!! I like the one that you rock back and forth...can't remember the name...seal maybe?

Which Pilates move do you find the hardest?

Plank is really hard but I am gradually holding it for longer!!

What is your biggest Pilates achievement?

My flexibility is much better now and j can now do a sit up without holding my legs to pull me up!!! Very proud!

What advice would you give to new starters?

Give it a go, don't worry that you won't be able to do it. You will as Holly makes it accessible for everyone. She talks you through each move and it really does work!

Has your opinion on Pilates changed since you first started?

Yes, I hadn't realised how great it was and how strong it can make you!

Nina M

How long have you practiced Pilates with Islandz?

I think it's been about 2 years.

What made you want to start Pilates?

My best friend is a Pilates instructor in Sheffield and so I had heard of it for a while. I thought I should give it a try to compliment running and help re-build core strength after three children.

What changes have you felt in your body and mind since starting?

My core strength and posture have improved and I feel leaner in general. I feel more balanced doing something that isn't just cardio. I think my arms are stronger too.

What’s your favourite small piece of equipment that you’ve used in an Islandz session?

the pink half deflated ball!

What is your favourite Pilates move?

sorry, I have four: balance moves, roll downs, shoulder bridges and all the work lying on our sides that work bums/hips.

Which Pilates move do you find the hardest?

Anything where I have to keep my legs straight up in the air, especially trying to lower them to the ground - my tummy still bulges out quickly/easily. My hip flexers seem to give up really quickly too in this position.

What is your biggest Pilates achievement?

Increased flexibility and improved core strength.

What advice would you give to new starters?

You will see (and feel) results if you do it regularly. Doing it twice a week has made the biggest difference for me personally.

Has your opinion on Pilates changed since you first started?

Yes, I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I do because I've been so used to only cardio workouts. Can't imagine a fitness routine without pilates now that I know all the benefits.
