What is biomechanics and the Islandz Body Method

Biomechanics of the body is the study of how our muscles, bones, joints, and connective tissues work together to create movement. It involves understanding the mechanical principles (such as force, torque, and leverage) that govern how we move and how the body responds to various movements and activities.

Most people are living with imbalances in their alignment which can lead to persistent pain.

Biomechanics looks at the body as a whole and identifies the areas of misalignment

and how this can be fixed.

Using Holly’s approach, The Islandz Body Method, sessions include addressing

the following concepts:

Posture & Alignment

Biomechanics considers how our posture and body alignment affect how forces are distributed through the body. Poor posture or improper alignment can lead to strain, pain,  or injury.

Kinematics

This refers to the study of movement itself—how the body moves through space, including things like speed, direction, and range of motion.

Movement Efficiency

Biomechanics helps us understand how to move more efficiently, using the least amount of energy while maximising performance and minimising wear and tear on the body.

Kinetics

This looks at the forces that cause movement, such as the force generated by muscles, the impact on joints, and the effects of gravity.

Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation

By understanding biomechanics, we can identify and correct movement patterns that might lead to injury, and we can use specific exercises or techniques to promote healing and recovery from injuries.
